Communications Manager - Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented professional to serve with the HFHI International Communications Team as a Communications Manager in support of the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS). Focusing on Communications related to HFHI’s TCIS and Reporting to the Senior Director of International Communications, the Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating a communications strategy that promotes key aspects of Terwilliger Center program work to targeted audiences around the world in concert with Habitat’s overall brand strategy. This position manages the creation of compelling content and messaging and identifies strategically important platforms, channels and initiatives for delivering that content and messaging. The Communications Manager is responsible for key collaborations with other Global Communications staff and Terwilliger Center colleagues at headquarters and area offices as well as in the places where Habitat does program work. Key partners at headquarters include the Senior Director of External Relations and the Terwilliger Center Research and Thought Leadership Director.
Through collaboration and partnership, the Communications Manager works with stakeholders to ensure the strategy, content and messaging promote the Terwilliger Center’s global housing expertise and raise awareness of the center’s work — all while fully adhering to Habitat brand guidelines. Key audiences range from the public and the Habitat network to potential new supporters and those in the global housing, microfinance and market systems sectors. Key platforms include habitat.org, Habitat’s social media channels, news outlets and blogs, special events and printed materials such as brochures and Habitat magazine.
** Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of International Communications and the Terwilliger Center Research and Thought Leadership Director to develop and implement global communications strategy, messaging and content plans
** Play a lead role in identifying the communications channels, platforms and events that can best deliver Terwilliger Center content to strategically important audiences. Collaborate closely with Habitat teams that control those channels and/or relationships to assure effective content delivery
** Lead the development of content for those key communications platforms, ensuring projects are consistent with organizational brand strategy
** Help interpret Terwilliger Center research, programming, and expertise for strategically important audiences by preparing both the messaging and the messengers
** Leverage and align communications assets and messaging across regions by liaising with colleagues worldwide, from those in other HQ and Area Office communications work groups to HQ, Area Office and in-the-field Terwilliger Center work groups
** Develop metrics to measure the progress of the Terwilliger Center communications strategy and assure it is updated each year to reflect learnings and any relevant shifts in organizational strategy
** Help strengthen the presence, quality and variety of Terwilliger Center material on digital channels, including habitat.org
** Support the Terwilliger Center’s effort to increase internal Habitat awareness of and engagement with the center’s work by editing presentations and advising HQ staff on internal awareness-raising content
** Bachelors Degree in Communications or related field
** 5 years in global communications work, especially managing global projects with multiple stakeholders
** Proficiency in building creative concepts and demonstrated ability to see projects through to completion
** Ability to write, edit, evaluate and curate strong content and design related to international development and/or market and finance systems change while meeting brand, marketing and messaging needs.
** Ability to lead the creation of complete content packages; established experience with photo selection, design collaboration, video scripting, etc., all in the service of furthering and maintaining brand standards while raising awareness of an entity such as the Terwilliger Center
** Strong communications and problem-solving skills.
** Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural competencies and organizational and project management skills that demonstrate an ability to successfully collaborate with a variety of departments and stakeholders
** Previous nonprofit experience preferred
** Experience with content marketing, creative campaigns, social platforms and SEO preferred
** Experience with international development and social change preferred
