Habitat CEO Jonathan Reckford named Influencer of the Year by the NonProfit Times

ATLANTA (Sept. 22, 2017) – Jonathan Reckford, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity International, has been named the 2017 NonProfit Times Influencer of the Year. Reckford was selected from among 49 other nonprofit leaders and innovators on the 20th annual NonProfit Times Power and Influence Top 50 list.

“As the challenge of affordable housing grows ever greater, Habitat for Humanity under Jonathan Reckford’s leadership is making great strides with new ideas and new solutions,” said Paul Clolery, vice president and editorial director of the NonProfit Times. “Reckford and Habitat aren’t just constructing homes—they are developing communities of change.”

Habitat has seen the tremendous impact that affordable housing has on helping people create better lives for themselves and their families. Working in communities across the U.S. and around the world, people in need of decent housing partner with Habitat to build or improve a place they can call home, working alongside volunteers and paying an affordable mortgage. Through this model, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Habitat also provides training in construction and financial management, partners with the private sector to expand access to affordable housing, and advocates for policies and systems to allow more access to shelter solutions.

A committee of NonProfit Times staff and contributors took part in the selection process. Candidates were evaluated on their leadership and on the social impact they have had over the last 12 months.

“Habitat for Humanity has experienced remarkable growth and we are proud to be a leader in addressing affordable housing needs,” said Reckford. “Our teams work around the world every day to help achieve our vision of everyone having a decent place to live. I am honored to accept this recognition on their behalf, as we recommit to finding innovative new solutions to carry out our mission.”

Reckford received the award at the NonProfit Times Power and Influence Top 50 Gala held in Washington, D.C., this month.

Reckford joined Habitat for Humanity International as CEO in 2005. Reckford previously held positions at Goldman Sachs, Marriott, the Walt Disney Co. and Best Buy, as well as serving as executive pastor of a 4,300-member church in Edina, Minnesota. He serves on the boards of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Stanford GSB and the Duke Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Urban Steering Committee for the World Economic Forum.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home.
