MetLife partners with Habitat for Humanity to build homes across Europe, the Middle East and Africa during third annual Community Week

ATLANTA (June 20, 2018) – More than 750 MetLife employees will roll up their sleeves during the company’s third annual Community Week, a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity to undertake home building projects in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The service projects started in May and will continue in June and July 2018 in various countries within the region.

The partnership, supported by the company’s philanthropic arm MetLife Foundation, engages employees who are passionate about pitching in at a community level. Volunteers will work side-by-side with future Habitat homeowners and community members on ground-up home building projects, home repairs and community improvements.

“The team at MetLife is helping to transform lives,” said Torre Nelson, Habitat for Humanity International’s acting vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “These MetLife team members will work alongside families as they build better futures through safer and more stable homes and communities.”

MetLife Foundation has a long history of community improvement initiatives that engage their employees. In the spirit of the foundation’s mission, Community Week takes an on-the-ground approach to improving quality of life and increasing opportunities.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
