Daud Shad, our facilitator and interviewer, is one of three fellows from our current HS&S 2023 fellowship cohort. He is pursuing a master’s in the city planning program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research is focused on shelter for internally displaced persons, or IDPs, in Karachi, Pakistan, in response to the 2022 floods.
Madeline Burnham, HS&S 2022 cohort fellow, has a master’s degree in disaster management from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. There, she focused on examining the relationship between shelter, disaster management and migration. Her research included interviews with displaced Syrian refugees in Lebanon and analyzing the role of humanitarian programs in long-term shelter recovery.
