Mission Advancement Officer
The newly established Mission Advancement Officer (MAO) role is a dynamic opportunity for a strategic and forward-thinking leader. The MAO will work closely with Habitat NWMA’s leadership to develop and implement strategies for major and planned giving, corporate sponsorships, and special event fundraising. A central focus will be growing major gifts ($5,000+) to support the affiliate’s mission and long-term goals.
The MAO will manage a portfolio of major donors and sponsors, lead cultivation and stewardship initiatives, and design innovative donor engagement experiences. This role also offers the opportunity to help shape Habitat NWMA’s future endowment fund and gift planning strategy. A high level of professionalism, tact, and attention to detail is required to engage high-net-worth individuals and key stakeholders effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities
Champion Habitat NWMA’s mission and inspire major donors through compelling storytelling and engagement.
Conduct confidential prospect research, analyzing biographical, philanthropic, professional, and financial information.
Grow and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects ($5,000+) and steward relationships to ensure ongoing donor engagement and compliance with donor intent.
Collaborate with the development team to design and implement donor communication strategies that improve donor retention, upgrade giving levels, and increase gift frequency.
Lead and manage annual fundraising plans, including setting timelines and metrics aligned with strategic goals.
Plan, oversee, and execute annual special event fundraisers.
Develop and monitor budgets for major gifts, planned giving, and corporate fundraising programs.
Stay informed on philanthropic trends and opportunities within the Metro Atlanta nonprofit, corporate, and construction communities.
Play a lead role in building the endowment fund and shaping future gift planning strategies.
Evaluate fundraising programs for effectiveness and recommend adjustments to meet goals.
Assist with grant writing and submission processes.
Qualifications
Proven experience leading development/fundraising teams.
Strong track record in cultivating major donors and securing planned gifts.
5–7 years of demonstrated success meeting or exceeding annual fundraising goals.
5–7 years of special event fundraising and major gift solicitation experience, including sponsorships of $20,000+.
Strong knowledge of fundraising practices, donor relations, and stewardship.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Skills and Abilities
Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and corporate donors.
Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and initiate donor relationships.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to inspire and persuade.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and CRM/database management systems.
Experience in grant writing and submission processes.
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
Work is primarily performed in an office environment using standard office equipment.
Moderate noise levels due to proximity to Habitat NWMA warehouse activity.
Must be able to lift and carry parcels up to 15 pounds, walk short distances, and drive to donor locations.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.
