U.S. Advocacy - Intern

Habitat for Humanity International’s strategic plan calls on our global network of local Habitat organizations to help drive policy changes that expand access to quality, affordable housing for 30 million people. With nearly 1,000 state and local affiliates working across diverse communities in the U.S., Habitat is uniquely positioned to influence policies at all levels of government that shape the housing landscape. To realize this vision, we are accelerating locally led advocacy by equipping affiliates with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to champion policy solutions that reflect the priorities of their communities.

Reporting to the U.S. advocacy engagement specialist, the U.S. Advocacy Intern will help advance this goal by developing a suite of user friendly, action-oriented intranet resources. These materials will help Habitat affiliates across the U.S. build confidence and capacity for engaging in advocacy by breaking down several tactics into clear, approachable summaries, paired with practical tools that affiliates can use in their local work. The intern will collaborate on and manage resource creation from conception to implementation. Priority resource topics include government outreach and engagement, advocacy communications, and coalition building. This role offers students an opportunity to apply research, writing and analysis skills in a mission-driven context, while gaining experience in nonprofit strategy, advocacy and knowledge management.

Responsibilities:
* Produce tools, templates, and resources to build advocacy knowledge among Habitat affiliates.
* Conduct research on effective practices from the Habitat network, peer nonprofits, and advocacy organizations to identify best-in-class tools and examples.
* Develop a comprehensive project plan for developing all of the resources, including collaborating on a promotion strategy for the resources.
* Collaborate on resource and webpage design, layout and formatting to ensure optimized user experience.
* Support and attend team meetings, regularly providing updates on work as needed.

About Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity, founded in 1976, is a global, Christian-based nonprofit organization that grew out of an intentionally multi-racial community in rural Georgia. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat brings together people of all faiths and people of no faith to build homes, communities and hope. Working alongside each other, we help families and individuals build and improve places to call home and achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Habitat seeks individuals who have a willingness to affirm these principles and values.

At Habitat for Humanity International, we are compelled by our Koinonia roots to put God’s love for all into action and pursue housing equity and opportunity by bringing all people together to build community and drive impact. We strive to build a culture rooted in learning, accountability and trust, attracting and retaining mission-driven talent reflective of the global communities we serve.

As an equal opportunity employer, we realize our success depends on courageously committing to being a workplace where all staff feel safe, welcome, visible, respected, supported and valued, and building a workforce that reflects a variety of lived experiences, backgrounds and perspectives, in which every person experiences dignity and respect.

We also require that all staff take seriously their ethical responsibilities to safeguarding our intended beneficiaries, their communities (especially children) and all those with whom we work. In line with the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, all staff must pass a thorough background screening and will be held accountable to upholding our policies around ethical behavior, including safeguarding and whistleblowing.
