Habitat for Humanity and Simpson Strong-Tie build homes to better withstand severe weather and geological threats

ATLANTA (July 10, 2019) — Simpson Strong-Tie has committed $450,000 to Habitat for Humanity to help build safe and affordable homes. Funding will also support the housing organization’s Habitat Strong program, which uses building methods to improve durability, resiliency and strength to uphold against severe climate conditions while maintaining affordability for homeowners.

“As a manufacturer of engineered structural connectors, prefabricated shear wall panels, fastening systems and anchor solutions, being a strong supporter of Habitat Strong is the perfect opportunity for us to continue strengthening homes and protecting families while also giving back to our communities,” said Simpson Strong-Tie COO Ricardo Arevalo.

Every day, homeowners across the U.S. are faced with unimaginable circumstances that threaten their everyday livelihood. With hurricane season upon us, contributing partners like Simpson Strong-Tie that support programs to strengthen homes and make them more durable will better prepare families from threatening climate conditions. Climate conditions include severe weather threats such as strong winds, heavy rainstorms, hail and wildfires, and geological threats like earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

Since 2007, Simpson Strong-Tie has donated nearly $3.9 million in cash or products to build a decent place to live for families in need of an affordable home, over $650,000 of which has been directed to Habitat Strong. Since the program’s inception, Simpson Strong-Tie has increased its monetary contribution to Habitat Strong from $85,000 in 2015 to $150,000 in 2017 and now to $200,000 in 2019.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
