Pop-up doors in Houston
Everyone deserves a decent place to call home. For 50 years, Habitat has been turning that mission into reality by helping millions of people around the world build, improve or finance their homes.
Today, we’re building on that momentum.
We’re popping up in 10 cities worldwide with an art installation of 10 doors, each featuring work from local artists and real homeowner stories.
Together, they represent what’s possible with a safe, decent foundation.
Building on our momentum.
Through hands-on builds, pop-up exhibits, compelling new research and powerful storytelling, we’re bringing housing to the center stage at a global scale. Learn more.
Chris Robinson | Featured artist
Chris Robinson is a visual culture storyteller, designer, illustrator and maker based in Houston, Texas. This is a teaser image of his door artwork.
When I was young, I saw Habitat for Humanity change the life of my family member for the better, so it’s a no-brainer to be a part of 50 years of incredible service of empowering families of all backgrounds to have a place to call home.
In my artwork, the card game being played is Spades. My family and I play it all the time when we gather for any occasion, so that is my personal touch. And the flower painting on the wall is a nod to my mom, whose name is Rose. Growing up, she opened our home up to anyone who needed it in our neighborhood, even when we didn’t have much ourselves.
I come from a big family, but I also have my best friends that I truly consider family. I wanted to articulate what a gathering looks like with not just your nuclear family, but your made family. Those who we love all look different, but in an invited safe space, it’s all love.
I wanted to show Houston under one roof. We are such a diverse city, and what I illustrated isn’t far off from what you could experience here any given weekend.
Hand-sketching – that imperfect handmade human error, even in a digital illustration – really pulls out the human in my design process, and I love that. I want that humanity to come through even when I’m using digital tools or techniques. It’s just a reminder that real people are behind these beautiful pieces.

Lowes | Featured partner
Lowes is our featured sponsor and partner at our Houston stop with their own door, representing what’s possible when families achieve housing stability.
Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity have worked together for over 20 years and this year, Lowe’s awarded US$2 million in grants to 20 Habitat organizations across the U.S., supporting nearly 200 home repair projects. Affiliates receiving these grants can apply funding to help with repairs that impact structural and critical home issues, preventative care and home-system performance.
