Thunderstorms can cause dangerous lightning, large hail, flash flooding, tornadoes and strong winds. They often develop quickly and with little warning, so it’s important to learn the danger signs and plan ahead.

Selected from 100 finalists to become one of 10 winners, Habitat for Humanity recently received a Classy Award, which recognizes the most innovative solutions to the world’s toughest social issues.

Habitat has worked with communities in Quang Nam province for over 15 years, and it’s home to marginalized groups with great needs. This project will focus on building and showing examples of good, affordable latrines to help alleviate the sanitation issues these households face.

“It means the world to me. It gives me the actual ability to have my son come over without me having to physically help him up the steps and everything else,” says Robert, who was able to build a new ramp for his home with the support of Habitat and the Wells Fargo Foundation.  

Habitat for Humanity works with low-income communities in the Indian states of Maharashtra, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. This project, which would benefit over 1,000 individuals, could be delivered in any – or all – of these three states.

In November 2020, Tvasta Manufacturing printed a 600-square-foot home in concrete over the course of 30 days, made possible with investment from Habitat’s ShelterTech. With improvements, the start-up hopes to cut that time down to about a week.
