As part of its advocacy efforts, Habitat Brazil took part in our global advocacy campaign Solid Ground to strengthen the housing rights of millions of Brazilian families like Carmen’s.
The success of Habitat for Humanity’s groundbreaking MicroBuild Fund, which has helped millions of low-income families around the world build or improve their homes, is the result of years of careful planning and the ability to attract like-minded and committed partners.
Twenty-two-year-old Kannika Nhem began volunteering with Habitat Cambodia in 2019 for personal growth. And while it has been a fun way to meet new people, develop her talents and explore her interests, she remains a volunteer for another reason.
“I find that the most important inspiration now comes from my fuller understanding of the housing issue in Cambodia and all the ways Habitat works to solve it,” says the university student. “Not only is Habitat Cambodia building safe shelters and environments, but they are also helping people increase their knowledge and skills so that they can keep their income and housing stable.”
The new fund aims to unlock flexible capital for Habitat affiliates to build affordable housing at scale.
When we ask Habitat homeowners what their homes make possible for them, their answers — just as they share them with us — fit together like poetry. The powerful poetry of lives changed and futures transformed.
Maintaining the funding of the Self-help Homeownership Opportunity Program and the Section 4 capacity building program with proven outcomes will allow Habitat to continue supporting more than 1,400 affiliates nationwide to better meet the affordable housing needs in their communities.
