“What brought it home to me”

Nahla Rajan was drawn to financially support Habitat for Humanity because she “wanted something that would make a long-term impact in people’s lives.”

“The part that keeps me coming back is learning how every recipient is a builder,” says the Washington, D.C.-based attorney.

Like so many Habitat supporters, Nahla has seen the results of her gifts in action firsthand on the build site.

“I would encourage anyone who has ever given or is thinking about giving to Habitat to go to a build,” she says. “If you want to actually see what your money is doing, go to one of those builds.”

Nahla traveled to Malawi in 2015 to help build a Habitat house. “It was hands-down one of the best experiences of my life. It’s really meeting these people and hearing their stories and hearing how their lives have changed as a result of having a home. That’s really what brought it home to me.”
