Development Manager

Habitat KC is growing and looking for people dedicated to our mission, with a strong work ethic and the skills and experience to join our team. The Development Manager focuses on mid-level giving from corporate and individual donors. They will be responsible for cultivating a portfolio of donors, stewarding, and upgrading entry level to mid-level donors. The Development Manager will execute strategic fundraising campaigns and events that will strengthen our current individual and corporate partnerships while increasing new partnerships that will sustain Habitat KC’s annual giving. They will be metrics-driven, a self-started and possess working knowledge of development best practices.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage portfolio of corporate and individual prospects; playing lead role in stewardship, move management, soliciting and closing mid-level gifts.
  • Perform prospect research on corporate, foundation, and individual donors to determine pipeline of mid-level donors.
  • Execute fundraising appeals to grow individual giving, corporate partnerships, and small to mid-level foundation grants.
  • Oversee and manage End of Year giving campaign in collaboration with the Director of Marketing.
  • Work with staff to establish and maintain a work plan and timeline, including segmenting donors, creating mail lists and ask levels.
  • Collaborate with Development Coordinator on stewardships activities and acknowledgement letters.
  • Plan and execute specific fundraising and cultivation events as part of the phases of the Campaign.
  • Work with Vice President of Development, Development Coordinator and Finance Team to ensure all donor reporting is accurately reported.

Other Development Activities:
  • Assist with Affinity Builds and other Habitat KC events as needed.
  • Provide support during events and community engagement activities, with particular attention to donors.
  • Supports overall resource development team strategy to build on the culture of philanthropy at Habitat KC.

Qualifications, Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of Resource Development or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • Demonstrated history of soliciting and securing mid-gifts $2,500 to $5,000 is preferred.
  • Understanding of fundraising principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills operating with a high degree of emotional intelligence and influence.
  • Ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with volunteer management software and donor database software preferred.

Physical Requirements Necessary to Preform This Job:
  • Outside meetings and presentations are frequently required
  • Some evening and weekend meetings required
  • Occasional special projects require working on the construction site leading volunteers or overseeing corporate donors.

Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some evening and weekend meetings are required. Outside events, meetings and presentations will be required at times.
