Program description

Honduras is experiencing a 1.5-million-unit housing deficit where over 35% of the population requires shelter and where 50% of the population lives below the poverty line.

Habitat for Humanity Honduras’ work focuses on the existing strengths of the communities, long-term advocacy efforts and building and improving homes sustainably. Working together with a building contractor and local volunteers, Habitat volunteer tasks may include home repairs and building water and sanitation systems.

Additional projects may include:
  • Installing smokeless stoves.
  • Laying concrete floors.
  • Building latrines.

Team leader

Kaylae Allen’s Habitat experience began in 2016, and over the years she has seen how Habitat acts like a web — connecting with other nonprofits and programs that want to make the world a better place. She wants to get involved with Habitat’s Global Village program because it, too, is a kind of web, making meaningful connections and building more than homes. To learn more about this build, please contact Kaylae at [email protected].
