Research series: How does homeownership contribute to social and civic engagement?

People with low incomes have generally been less civically engaged than the overall population, but homeownership can change that. In this evidence brief, Habitat examines the connections between income, homeownership, and civic engagement, as well as how closing the racial homeownership gap can mitigate racial gaps in civic engagement.

Neighbors build community through multifamily homes

Brenda and Heidi were both searching for healthy homes where they could pay an affordable mortgage, and they found them in Habitat Midland’s multifamily community. Now the two women live in sustainable homes built with the support of Habitat and DuPont where they can feel safe and secure.  

State Farm renews partnership with Habitat for Humanity to build stronger and more resilient homes in communities across the U.S.

As part of the renewal, State Farm is contributing $650,000 toward youth engagement programs and $150,000 to support the global housing nonprofit’s disaster resilience program, Habitat Strong.

During Habitat on the Hill, advocates from 47 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico will meet with nearly 300 congressional leaders about the challenging housing affordability issues facing communities everywhere.
