Job Description

The Assistant Production Manager at Flatirons Habitat for Humanity plays a crucial role in the organization, working closely with the Factory Manager to oversee the production of modular homes. This position is an operations-focused leader who enjoys coordinating teams, improving production workflows, and supporting supervisors in a modular housing factory environment.

The Assistant Factory Manager oversees daily factory floor operations to ensure modular homes are built safely, efficiently, and according to production schedules. This role coordinates staff, volunteers, and students across the production floor while supporting Line Supervisors who provide direct task instruction.

Key Responsibilities:
Production Execution
* Run daily production meetings.
* Coordinate workflow across stations.
* Ensure modules move through the production line according to schedule.
* Identify and resolve production bottlenecks.
* Monitor daily production performance.
* Scheduling of trades during production (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc).

Workforce Coordination
* Supervise Line Supervisors and support them in managing their stations.
* Assign daily labor and manage workforce productivity across the factory floor.
* Provide operational direction and support to supervisors to maintain schedule and workflow.
* Coordinate participation of volunteers and students within the production environment.
* Ensure all workers operate safely and productively.
* Serve as Acting Factory Manager during periods when the Factory Manager is absent.

Production Metrics
* Track labor efficiency and production cycle times.
* Report production performance to the Factory Manager.
* Identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and repeatable processes across the production line.
* Coordinate with QA to ensure production meets established quality standards.

Student and Volunteer Coordination
* Coordinate student and volunteer participation with Line Supervisors and the Volunteer Manager.
* Serve as the primary factory contact for Boulder Valley School District staff and instructors.
* Assign students and volunteers to stations and ensure they are integrated into production activities safely and productively.
* Support Line Supervisors, who provide the primary instruction and supervision for volunteers and students.
* Provide occasional guidance or demonstrations when needed while maintaining focus on managing production and supporting supervisors.
* Monitor volunteer and student engagement and resolve issues as they arise.

Safety Enforcement
* Conduct safety walkthroughs.
* Ensure compliance with safety standards.
* Maintain organized and safe workstations.
* Support Line Supervisors in enforcing safety requirements across all stations.

Qualifications
* 3–5 years of experience in modular construction, manufacturing, production building, or a similar structured production environment. Experience in a factory-built housing environment is strongly preferred.
* Demonstrated experience leading crews or coordinating production teams in a manufacturing or production-based construction environment.
* Strong understanding of modular construction systems, production workflows, and assembly-based building methods, or the ability to quickly learn factory-based construction processes.
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and translate them into clear production tasks for supervisors, staff, volunteers, and students.
* Experience organizing work across multiple stations or crews while maintaining production schedules and workflow efficiency.
* Proven ability to identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks, sequencing issues, and production challenges on the factory floor.
* Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to support supervisors and maintain a productive team environment.
* Commitment to the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity and community-based homebuilding.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in environments that include volunteers, trainees, or workforce development programs.
* On-site residential construction experience, particularly modular installation or finish work.
* Familiarity with construction drawings, shop drawings, and production documentation.
* Experience coordinating production schedules or workflow planning.
* Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

Work Environment: The Assistant Factory Manager will work primarily in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Occasional travel to construction sites or community events may be required.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand for extended periods, and operate construction tools and equipment safely.

Compensation: Generous PTO, Health Benefits, 401K Match. $70,000-$80,000
