Five spring cleaning tips for your home

Although you can “spring clean” any month of the year, we’ve always been fond of spring cleaning after the cold winter months, usually around late March and early April. Spring cleaning can help relieve the stress and set you up for an enjoyable springtime season ahead.

Check out these spring cleaning tips and solutions from Home is the Key partner O-Cedar.

1. Start small.

Start spring cleaning with a small project like the front entryway, the coat closet or even the kitchen pantry. Checking off smaller tasks first can instill a sense of accomplishment, which can ultimately motivate you to tackle bigger cleaning projects like cleaning out the garage, basement or attic.

2. Show your floors some love.

Sweeping floors is a good start, but take your spring cleaning one step further and be sure to mop your floors, too.

3. Take advantage of the dishwasher.

The dishwasher isn’t just for washing dishes. Here are a few of our favorite items you can run through the dishwasher for a deep clean:

  • Fridge shelves
  • Kitchen sponges
  • Toothbrush holders
  • Pet dishes and toys
  • Baseball caps.

4. Wash the windows.

Cleaning the windows can be a big undertaking, but we have a simple and inexpensive solution. Take two parts lemon juice to one part white vinegar, dilute the mixture in hot water, grab a cloth and gently wipe down windows. Your windows will be sparkling like the springtime sunshine in no time.

5. Get the kids involved.

Assign duties to every family member, or mix things up and create a spring cleaning task wheel. Make sure everyone gets involved and make it a family affair.
