Every car has a story

Across the country, individuals and families are discovering that a car’s value goes far beyond the miles on its odometer. For many donors, parting with a vehicle means closing a chapter filled with memories.  In choosing to donate their vehicle to Habitat, they turn those memories into momentum for families who need safe, affordable housing.

We want you to hear first-hand testimonials of donors who transformed the stories held in their cars into new beginnings for others. Their generosity shows how letting go with purpose can help build stronger futures, one vehicle at a time.

Real donors. Real impact.

Alisa’s 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

As a local Realtor, I understand the need for affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity is very active in my community, and I chose to donate the vehicle to help support their local efforts. I hope it can do some good down the line. — Alisa, Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley

Justin’s 2007 Hyundai Sonata

After serving my family and me faithfully for over 15 years, to me it feels right to donate my Hyundai to a cause I believe in, and, in some small way, that this car was part of.  — Justin, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark

Joanne’s 1999 Honda CRV

I chose to make a donation to Habitat for Humanity in honor of President Jimmy Carter. I learned about Carter’s commitment to activism when I wrote a book report on his memoir during middle school. — Joanne, Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity

Charlotte’s 2006 Acura MDX

Big Red is over 15 years old and has been a source of consistency, always reliable. I am sad to let go, but I am glad Big Red can help Habitat. It is time for you to serve a different purpose. – Charlotte, Essex County Habitat for Humanity

Marcia’s 2007 Toyota Prius

I’m donating my car to Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County because it’s the organization of choice in my family for a number of years. It is important to me to follow in my parents’ footsteps by donating my car. Even with the condition of the car not being so great, I can be happy that we did a little good with a car that was so dependable and that I’ve always been grateful for. – Marcia, Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County

Man in an orange shirt, glasses and gray hat in front of a silver truck.

Jeffery’s 1994 Ford Ranger

This was the vehicle my brother and I learned to drive a manual transmission. This was the first vehicle I really discovered my road-warrior spirit. As long as my folks didn’t mind me being gone, I would travel to either end of North Carolina and back in a day. Just me and my case of mixtapes. She’s a good truck and I can’t think of a better way to further its value than to donate to Habitat for Humanity. – Jeffery, Habitat for Humanity of the Sanford Area, NC

Tan Ford Taurus

Michael’s 1999 Ford Taurus

We have so many memories involving our dear car, GB, including the girls learning to drive. But now it is time to let GB go. Maybe she can still give a young family their own memories. Thanks for taking us on adventures and keeping us safe all those years. – Michael, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles

Evie’s 2004 Chevy Aveo

This 2004 Chevy Aveo has been in my family since I was a kid. My boyfriend and I named it Snowball for its color and its surprisingly decent handling in the winter. I even got a “SNWBLL” personalized plate. I chose to donate Snowball to Habitat for Humanity because it’s been a great car for me for so long. I wanted it to be able to make a difference for somebody else, too. – Evie, Palouse Habitat for Humanity

Daniel’s 2011 Subaru Outback

The Outback was the first car my husband and I bought together as a married couple, and it took us on so many adventures! Eventually, it had one too many repairs, and we decided to give it to Habitat for Humanity. We knew we wanted to donate it and believe in what Habitat does for families and communities. – Daniel, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver

Gregor’s 2012 Mini Cooper

We are so sad to have our dear Harriet go. We couldn’t just sell it to a random person; we felt that our parting ways should be meaningful. We decided to donate it to the wonderful cause that Habitat for Humanity stands for, as we believe housing to be an inalienable human right. – Gregor, Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay
